A sentence construction game that puts the _____ in language learning.
VERBA™ is a language education card game developed by The Pericles Group, LLC. The concept is incredibly simple: one player (acting as the judge) draws a random card containing a fill-in-the-blank sentence in the target language, and the other players each play an illustrated card featuring a noun. The judge selects the ‘best’ card played (as defined by their own standard), and the person who played that card scores a point. Gameplay continues with the previous round’s winner becoming the next round’s judge.
All VERBA™ players benefit from seeing high-frequency words with many repetitions in a context that fosters richly-authentic learning and comprehensible input as informed by best practices for second language acquisition. As with all of The Pericles Group, LLC's games, play and learning objectives are aligned at a one-to-one ratio such that players win by constructing comprehensible sentences—precisely the same thing as they are meant to do outside the classroom environment.
